Gourmet Food Storage – 5 Minute Way to Delight Your Sweet Tooth

Have you ever been to one of those little towns with a bunch of little boutique shops?  You know the one.  They have a hot sauce shop, a quilt material shop, a bookstore, a sweet shop, and about twenty shops with decorations for your home.  I love finding those little out-of-the-way, quaint towns and spending a whole day there enjoying myself and probably spending way too much money.  One of the things that I make sure that I do is to swing by the sweet shop and buy myself just a small piece of fudge.  Just the memory of it makes me want to sigh with pleasure – time together with a good friend and eating good food.

So today, I’m going to give you a quick five-minute food storage recipe to satisfy your sweet tooth when times are tough.

Sweetened Condensed Milk

1/2 C hot water

1 C dry milk powder

3/4 C sugar

2 T ghee (or butter if you have it – do NOT use butter powder)

1/2 tsp vanilla – this is the best price I’ve found anywhere yet.

Directions: Heat the water over a medium flame.  Once it’s hot, whisk the dry milk powder in.  Whisk in sugar, ghee, and vanilla.  Let stand to cool.

Now take that super simple recipe above and combine it with a few more ingredients below to make some yummy goodness – also known as fudge!

5 Minute Way to Delight Your Sweet Tooth - FudgeFudge

1 recipe of sweetened condensed

1 – 12 oz bag or 2 C of chocolate chips

2 T Ghee (or butter)

1 tsp vanilla

Directions:  Heat sweetened condensed milk, chocolate chips, and ghee over medium-low heat.  Once combined add vanilla and stir.  Pour into a lined 8″x8″ pan and chill.

The whole operation should take you less than 5 minutes (minus the chilling time).  Don’t underestimate how important having something sweet like fudge can be when you are thinking of morale in a hard situation.

I make this fudge constantly in the microwave with 2 ingredients. 2 cups of semi-sweet chocolate chips in microwave safe bowl, (1) 14 oz. can of sweetened condensed milk poured over the chocolate chips. Place in microwave on high for 2 minutes. Stir until all is combined and no liquid left. I stir chopped walnuts into my fudge and then pour the mixture into an 8 X 8 square pan with parchment paper or Press N Seal in the pan with extra on the sides to lift fudge out after cooling. Smooth the fudge into the pan with a rubber spatula and then sprinkle the top of the fudge with sea salt. Place in refrigerator for at least 2 hours before removing from pan and cutting into fudge squares. Everyone says that it is the best fudge they have ever tasted. I am sure this can be made in a saucepan too in case of a power outage or grid down situation.
