You’ve had those times, haven’t you? You have one month to get some kind of big project done. Maybe you are helping organize a wedding. It’s the last month before the wedding and you feel like there’s so much to get done in just a little time. Maybe you remember back to your college days. That last month of the semester is SO HARD because you have all your projects coming due, you are taking more tests, there are more social events, and you have finals looming! There’s so much to do, but when you look back on it after a week or two of rest, you realize that pushing yourself for a short amount of time actually helped you get a TON more done than if you had gone it at a leisurely pace.
Well, September is National Preparedness month, and guess what? This is the perfect month to have a push to get yourself better prepared! I am here to help with that and to cheer you on as we head through this month together.
Two-Part Challenge
So as we head into September, I want to encourage you on two fronts. For the first part to this challenge, I want you to choose a preparedness topic about which you don’t know a whole lot and I want you to study it. If you have the ability, pick up one or two books on it, but if you don’t have the money for it, look up info on the web. There’s SO MUCH information on just about anything out there that you could want to learn.
The second part of this challenge is for you to pick an area of your preparedness efforts in which you know you need to up your game. Once you’ve got an area in mind, PRACTICE or do activities in it. If you know you need to get that water catchment system up and running, then this is the month for that! If you aren’t sure that you could protect yourself then either learn some form of self-defense or get yourself to a shooting range and practice or take a concealed carry class. Do you need to practice making herbal tinctures or salves? Choose your topic and practice. Please make sure you scroll down to the bottom and see “What You Need to Do Now” to get entered into a drawing to win A Year Without the Grocery Store paperback, the .pdf or the Companion Workbook, AND the new Principles of Self-Sufficiency Class
I’m All-in to Help You!
So how am I planning on helping you?
Blogging Mondays
We’re going to continue our Financial Preparedness posts on Mondays. Even if you’re a millionaire, everyone can benefit from a new way of looking at their finances.
Blogging Wednesdays
Wednesdays, I’m going to focus on preparedness items that people don’t think about storing and give you some tips on how you could get started storing them. I’m really excited about this series and how it can transform our preparedness efforts!
Blogging……..Thursdays?
Yep! You heard it right! For the month of September, I have someone who is quite adept at fiber work who is going to teach us VERY basic crocheting and knitting so that we could help our families out with scarves and dishcloths and other simple items. She’ll also give us a couple of basic patterns.
Blogging Fridays
On Fridays, we’re going to do a series called “Start Prepping Here.” Sometimes when you’re a bit new to a topic, you don’t know enough of what you don’t know to ask questions about the topic. Do you have friends who you want to introduce to preparedness? This is a great place to get them involved and walk with them through this series. I’ll be sharing tips and tricks to get them (and you) going and to keep your momentum on the upswing as we head into fall.
Giveaways, Sales, and NEW PRODUCTS!
Besides continuing with the blog posts, we’re going to have a WHOLE WEEK of giveaways of both digital AND physical items and sales not only the workbook but of – bu….bu…bum……..- NEW PRODUCTS! We’re going to introduce one totally new product, and we’re going to start carrying two other products.

What You Need to Do NOW
Do you want a chance to win a paperback copy of A Year Without the Grocery Store, a .pdf copy of A Year Without the Grocery Store Companion Workbook, and a copy the new Self-Sufficiency Principles class? Leave a comment below. This is one time when you can’t just respond to this if you get it in an e-mail. If you comment let us know, (1) What topic you are committing to learn more about this month and (2) What prepper project you’re going to tackle or what skill you are going to practice this month. If you do that and at the end of the month you actually accomplish both, you’ll be put in a drawing to win all three products.
Remember, knowledge isn’t just knowing something. It’s living it!
Thank you for all you do to help us get better prepared! This month I’m learning how to safely store water in different ways and then my goal is to do it!
Good for you! I’d love to hear what you end up doing for water storage. You got this.
Hmmm…….this is hard. I know a little about a lot of things. 1) I’m gonna learn/research more about home remedies and alternatives to some meds that we take and 2) I’m going to practice clothing alterations & repairs with a needle and thread (no electric sewing machine). No doubt it will be a good skill to have.
Those are both awesome! I’d love to hear your favorite thing or thing that most amazed you as you learn more about home remedies! Take some pictures of your clothing repair projects and share them on the Facebook Page. We’d love to see them!
Really enjoying the information, and the fun of a chance to win something. Thank you so much.
You’re so very welcome! I’m glad that I can do it. For a chance to win, make sure that you tell us what you’re going to learn this month and what prepper project you’re going to take on.
I learned a long time ago how to crochet from my grandma. But I haven’t done it in years. I want to learn to crochet again. I used to make afghans with my grandma and would love to do that with my daughter now. She always wants to learn what her granny did as a way of remembering her granny (she was 11 when my grandma passed away from Alzheimer’s and was heartbroken that at the end granny didn’t remember her). I also want to learn to pressure can. My husband bought me a pressure canner last Christmas but I have been afraid to try. I WB often. Now to expand those skills.
I will research about storing water.
What a fun event!
I love to knit and crochet, looking forward to seeing the new posts.
This month I’d like to put into place some of the vehicle preps you discussed in earlier posts.
In addition, if like to learn more about local foraging and herbs.
