Every Friday, we have a tradition that my kids love! We take my mom and father-in-law grocery shopping. Okay. That’s not the part that they love. They love what comes AFTER off-loading all of the groceries. We sit down together and eat pizza and watch a movie. For us, we usually buy pizza from Little Caesars. It’s okay. But what about homemade pizza? Did you know that you can VERY easily make pizza from your food storage ingredients? And no yeast need be involved – unless you want it to.

From time to time, you’re going to see a series on cooking with your food storage ingredients. These will be simple, easy, delicious recipes to take what could be a stressful situation and turn it, completely around, into a time of rejoicing over a well-cooked meal.
Today, I’m going to start with pizza sauce. Even saying that makes me want to make that “Italian” gesture of kissing your fingertips and say, “Muah, that’s Italian!”
Pizza used to be a standard fare around our house, but until lately, it had gone by the wayside. But we’re bringing it back!
So how do you make pizza sauce using only food storage items? It’s as simple as my magic word. No, not abracadabra! It’s “Tomato Powder.” Okay, so that’s two words, but they are two magical words in the food storage realm.
Tomato powder is such a versatile item. Keep your eyes open because you’re going to see future recipes using it.
Pizza Sauce
1/4 C Tomato powder
1 C Water
1 T Olive Oil
1/2 tsp Garlic powder
1 tsp Oregano
1 tsp Basil
1/2 tsp Salt
1/4 tsp Pepper
1 tsp Sugar
Mix these together (I mix them right in my 2C measuring cup) and Voila! Pizza sauce.
Now, I have another super secret way to make your pizzas easier.
Take a piece of bread and lay it flat on a cutting board or on a piece of waxed paper on your counter . Using a rolling pin or my favorite pizza roller, roll the bread out flat.
Once it’s rolled, place the bread on a cookie sheet and distribute your pizza sauce and toppings between the pieces of bread. This makes for a super simple and delicious food storage lunch.
Food Storage Topping Ideas
What would pizza be without some mozarella cheese? Think you can’t have that as part of your food storage? Think again! You can purchase freeze dried mozzarella cheese and freeze dried sausage crumbles for your very own sausage pizza.
